If we do, we\u2019ll always make sure there\u2019s a legal basis for it. This is called \u2018legal obligation\u2019<\/li>\n<li>to protect someone\u2019s life \u2013 for example, sharing information with a paramedic if a client was unwell at our office. This is called \u2018vital interests\u2019<\/li>\n<li>to carry out our legitimate aims and goals as a charity \u2013 for example, to create statistics for our national research. This is called \u2018legitimate interests\u2019<\/li>\n<li>for us to carry out a task where we\u2019re meeting the aims of a public body in the public interest \u2013 for example, delivering a government or local authority service. This is called \u2018public task\u2019<\/li>\n<li>to carry out a contract we have with you \u2013 for example, if you\u2019re an employee, we might need to store your bank details so we can pay you. This is called \u2018contract\u2019<\/li>\n<li>to defend our legal rights \u2013 for example, sharing information with our legal advisors if there was a complaint that we gave the wrong advice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We handle and store your personal information in line with the law, including the General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizensadvice.org.uk\/about-us\/about-us1\/citizens-advice-privacy-policy\/your-information\"><strong>national Citizens Advice policy<\/strong><\/a> for how we handle client information across our service. This page covers how we, as your local charity, handle your information locally within Cyngor ar Bopeth Gwynedd Citizens Advice (CAB Gwynedd).<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How we collect your data<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019ll get your permission by asking you to either:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>sign a paper consent form<\/li>\n<li>tick a box online<\/li>\n<li>give agreement over the phone<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before we ask for your permission, we\u2019ll always explain how we use your information.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the methods set out in our main policy, we may receive personal information by our referral partners when they refer you to us for debt, housing or welfare benefit advice. In these circumstances, our partners will ask you for your permission to make the referral and to give your personal information to us.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What we ask for<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To find out what information we ask for and how we use your information, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizensadvice.org.uk\/about-us\/about-us1\/citizens-advice-privacy-policy\/your-information\"><strong>see our national policy<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How we use your information<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We use your information in line with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizensadvice.org.uk\/about-us\/about-us1\/citizens-advice-privacy-policy\/your-information\">our national policy<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Working on your behalf<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you give us authority to act on your behalf, for example to help you with a Universal Credit claim, we may need to share information with that third party.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result of offering you our services, we may share information with third parties such as, but not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cyngor Gwynedd Council (for example when helping you claim Council Tax Support)<\/li>\n<li>Department of Work and Pensions (for example, when helping you to appeal against the refusal of a welfare benefit)<\/li>\n<li>Adra Housing<\/li>\n<li>Shelter Cymru<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How we store your information<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We store your information in line with our national policy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We store your information electronically on our Casebook case recording system, and we also keep paper copies relating to your enquiry if it is absolutely necessary. All paper records will be destroyed when we close your enquiry.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How we share your information<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With your permission, we might share your information with other organisations to help resolve your problem(s). Organisations we share your data with must store and use your data in line with data protection law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you ask us to act on your behalf we might need to share some of your information with other organisations \u2013 we\u2019ll always tell you when we do this and only with your express permission. This means they\u2019re a \u2018joint data controller\u2019 for your personal information that\u2019s stored in our Casebook system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each local Citizens Advice is an independent charity, and a member of the national Citizens Advice charity.
